Plate Tectonics and the Future

Click on the link below and look to the right to see pictures of the super continent Amasia.  This futuristic picture is what some Geologists believe that the Earth will look in the future.  The name Amasia is a combination of America and Asia.

Amasia

Now click on the next link to listen to what is believed will happen to the other continents and when will it happen.  Plate Tectonics is changing the Earth's surface.  What do you think will happen in the future? What do you think about the changes with India and Australia? Listen to the article.  Watch the video os the rise of and split of Pangea.  Join in the conversation.

In the future, after a long time from now all the continents will be join together to make one large land mass call Amasia. We think the changes were big because they both traveled almost completely around the world.

All the continets will join together and form a new pangea. They have defently shrunk and then moved back to the place they originated.

They wouldn't form a new Pangea it would be called Amasia

It will not form a new Pangaea because the continents will be rearranged into a new formation, that could end up as Amasia.
The individual continents cannot shrink. A supercontinent can get smaller if the plates collide and slip under each other into subduction zones, but individual continents cannot really shrink.

That's completely true, they probably will go back to it's place it originated. And it would not be called pangea, it would be called Amasia.

Yes we know that it won't be called pangea but it will be a land form like pangea. We only used that name to descibe the landform.

    6. We think that they have shrunk and that it will not be similar to pangea. We think it will be totally different.

In the future we think that another super continent will form, like in the video. We think the movement will be major, and Amasia will exsist at one point. We think the changed in India and Australia are big because they moved the most out of all of the other continents.

We think that the continents will spread out and come back together, rather than skirt the earth and come together. We also think that continents and plates will run into each other, creating subduction zones. Lastly, we think that it would be interesting to see how big Asia would be if Australia were to join it near India and Japan.
