Rock Types, How are they formed?

We will be looking at the 3 different types of rocks and how they are formed.  Check out the following link and watch 3 short video clips on what must happen to create each different type of rock.  Report what you find out.

  3. Sedimentary rocks are formed by sediment under pressure for many years. In a volcano the magma will build up at the plug and erupt after time. Metamorphic rock is sedimentary rock that's heated up by lava.

  6. There are three types of rock, Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary. The igneous rock comes out of lava and comes out as lava or pumice. The metamorphic rock is Greek for "change of form" and squeeze or fold rocks into something new. The sedimentary rock is when fragments and sediments are deposited together by wind, water or ice, and cement together into new rocks over millions of years. All of these rocks combine makes the earth's crust.

    1. I agree with Madison; the three types of rock are Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary rock. They all form in the way described above (sedimentary: deposition/buildup, igneous: volcano eruption, metamorphic: pressure to the sedimentary or igneous rock) and they all are put together to make up the earth's lithosphere.

  7. There are three different rock types: Sedimentary, Igneous, and Metamorphic rock. Sedimentary rock is formed when rock fragments and sediment are deposited together by water, ice, or wind. Over thousands of years, they bind together to make new rocks. Some examples of sedimentary rock are limestone and sandstone. Igneous rock is formed when magma from the earth's mantle rises up. Igneous rocks sometimes erupt from volcanoes as pumice or lava. Metamorphic rock forms when sedimentary or igneous rock change dramatically due to earth's forces such as extreme heat or pressure. The word 'metamorphic' is Greek for 'change of form'.

  8. There are three major types of rocks Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary. Igneous rocks are formed when magma rises from the earth's mantle or they can be found underground magma chambers. Sedimentary rock is formed when different rocks are deposited by wind water or ice, then they are cemented together over time . You can often find fossils in these rocks.Metamorphic rock is formed when igneous and sedimentary rocks change dramatacly inside the earth from heat or pressure.

  22. Sedimentary rocks are formed when fragments of rock and/or sand get packed together by the wind, water, or ice, and then are gradually cemented together into new shapes o rocks.
Molten rock (or magma) rises to the surface of the earth, and they solidify to form igneous rocks.
Extreme heat or pressure can cause sedimentary or igneous rocks to transform into something different, and the new rock that forms is called a metamorphic rock.

Metamorphic rock=Extreme heat or pressure underground bakes, squeezes and folds rocks into something new.making metamorphic rock.

  69. There are three main types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. Sedimentary rocks are formed when rock fragments and sediments are deposited together for thousands of years, and, eventually, they will bond together to form a new rock. Igneous rocks are formed when lava cools to form a rock. Metamorphic rocks are formed when sedimentary rocks are heated by lava, and then cools to form a new rock.

  70. There are 3 diff. types of rocks, sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. Igneous is formed when magma rises from inside the mantle. sedimentary forms in rives when layers of mud and tiny rocks form. metamorphic forms when igneous and sedimentary rock are changed.

  72. There are three types of rocks, Sedimentary, Igneous, and Metaphoric. Sedimentary rocks are formed slowly in rivers, layers of small rocks, and mud. Igneous is made when molten rock called Magma rises up from the Earth's under ground. Metaphoric is when Sedimentary and Igneous are altered at extreme conditions.

  73. There are three different ways that rocks can form:
Sedimentary:When rocky fragments and sediments are deposited together by wind, water or ice, they gradually cement together into new rocks, called sedimentary rocks. In these rocks you can often find fossils embedded into the rock.

Igneous rocks:When Volcanoes erupt volcanic material rises up from the earth's mantle deep underground and forms igneous rocks.

Metamorphic:When sedimentary and Igneous rocks are changed dramatically by extreme heat or pressure. These rocks underground can bake, squeeze, or fold into something new. When that happens they are call metamorphic rocks

  74. one type of rock was sedimentary rock is rock formed by pieces of rocks that move over time by wind water and ice and after a while the presure/gravity pushes the rocks together forming horizontal layers of rocks another was igneous it is formed by lava that comes onto the the earths surface after a while the layers of cooled lava will start to form a volcano then whee the volcano erupts ash and other material also help form layers.rock and the last was metamorphic rock it is formed by magma that can not get to the surface to form a volcano because there is no way for it get out instead it pushes the rock above it up and then the lava cools inside of the rock forming metamorphic rock.

SEDIMENTARY- formed by materials moving from one place to another.usually forms i horizontal layers.
MOLTEN-is formed from lava, forms igneous rocks.
METAMORPHIC-when rocks go in extreme heat or pressure underground to form something new.

To form metamorphic rocks, you need pressure heat or folding. But if there is too much pressure or too much heat. Could these rocks crack, break or even melt?

I agree with your answer; however, I don't think that you clearly gave an answer for Metamorphic rocks. Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have been changed through pressure, heat, chemicals, etc. Your answer is not complete sentence, it was probably a typo. Your other answers were accurate and complete though.

  93. For the first rock it is created by over years and years of cediment being built up more and more and over the years it is being built up more and more and once it is built up it turns into rocks but it takes a lot of years.
The next rock is called molten rock it is created by when the earthes magma rices up then it rupters and the process starts to getting the rock formed witch once it rupters and the magma is out it turns into a rock.
The next rock can form by all the heat or pressure from the under ground that builds up witch can make the rocks squeeze or it can also fold it into something else that is new. It is called a metaphoric rock that does all that.
