Check out the following link:

Click on recent quakes.  Chose a recent quake off of the list M3+ in the US.  What was it's magnitude, where was it located?  What else did you learn about it?
Now chose an earthquake from the M5+ worldwide list.  What was it's magnitude. where was it located?  What else can you tell me about it?

  1. There was a Magnitude 5.1 earthquake on January 23rd in the Nagua of the Dominican Republic. Its depth was about 7.4 kilometers (4.6 miles) below the ground.

    There was a Magnitude 5.9 earthquake on January 19th, 2012 off the west coast of South Island, New Zealand. Its depth was 18.1 kilometers (11.2 miles) under ground.

  2. An M3+ earthquake occurred on January 23, 2012 and the magnitude was 5.1. It was located in the Dominican Republic. I learned that the depth was 7.4 kilometers.
    An M5+ earthquake occurred on January 22, 2012 and the magnitude was 5.0. This earthquake happened in Chile. I also learned that the depth of this earthquake was 58.8 kilometers.

    I think it is really interesting that there are so many earthquakes that go on everyday! When I was looking at the list of earthquakes, I was really surprised at the amount of earthquakes that had already happened today in different parts of the world!

  4. The earthquake I chose was a 5.1 earthquake 20 miles NW from Nagua, Dominican Republic. This happened on January 23rd at about 4.6 miles below the ground.

    The second earthquake I chose was a 6.3 earthquake South of the Fiji Islands. This happened on January 24 at about 582.8 kilometers below the ground.

  5. There was a magnitude 5.1 earthquake on January 23, 2012. It was located in the Dominican Republic. I learned that the dept was 7.4 kilometers.
    The second one I chose was an earthquake that occured on January 22, 2012, the magnitude was 5.0. This earthquake took place in Chile. I learned that the dept was 58.8 kilometers.

  6. There was a magnitude 6.3 earthquake on Jan. 21. In Chiapas, Mexico.It had a depth of 79.5.

  7. There was a 3.8 magnitude earthquake in Clearlake, California. The earthquake was 3 km deep and happen today at 12:11 in the morning. There was a 6.2 magnitude earthquake off the shore of Bio-Bio Chile. It was 29.7 km deep. The quake happened yesterday at 4:04 yesterday afternoon.

  13. There was an earthquake in Dominican Republic, its magnitude was 4.5 and it was 4.6 miles below the surface.
    There was another earth quake in Chile and its magnitude was 5.0. I learned that it happened on January 22, 2012
