Ohio Earthquakes

Check out the following link.  Tell me about the Earthquake that occured on June 18, 1875.  Where did it occur?  What damage occured?  How about the earthquake on September 19, 1884?  Looking at the seismicity map, where do you see the most Earthquake activity in Ohio?  When was the largest earthquake in Ohio.  Tell me some facts about it.  Look through the rest of the site.  What other facts can you give me about earthquakes in Ohio?

  1. An earthquake on June 18th, 1875 affected and damaged the western Ohio. Walls were cracked and chimneys were thrown down, while the shocks were felt all of the way in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Missouri.

    There was a small earthquake on September 19th, 1884 that cause chandeliers to swing for several minutes afterwards in Columbus. The shock of the quake was felt in an area of about 324,000 square kilometers, and the builders of the Washington Monument could feel the shaking, all of the way at the top.

    The most earthquake activity occurred in the Northeastern corner of the state.

    The largest earthquake in Ohio occurred on March 9th, 1937. A spring in the area, that had been dry for several years, started to squirt out water after the second shock hit. This shock was felt in multiple states all around Ohio.

    The last earthquake in Ohio occurred in the Youngstown-Warren area on January 13th of 2012.

  2. on June 18th it affected Western Ohio and about 104,000 square kilometers. on September 19th it caused slight damage. most earth quakes cover threw ought Ohio but they happen more near lake Erie. Cleveland area seems to have the largest earth quake.

  3. An earthquake on June 18, 1875, caused damage in western Ohio, and affected a total area estimated at 104,000 square kilometers. Near Lima Ohio September 19,1884 a earthquake hit. Only slight damage occurred. The most earthquakes occur in Cleveland Ohio according to the seismicity map. The largest earthquake in Ohio on March 9, 1993. Another earthquake had occurred seven days earlier and cracked the walls of churches and schools.

  4. The earthquake in 1875 caused damage to the western part of Ohio, affecting a total of 104,000 in square kilometers. Ohio was struck again in 1884, causing damage to Columbus and lifting it up to about 500 feet in the air.-Dominic Deutsch

  7. there is no earthquakes in ohio but in most places earthquakes start and never end .
