Apollo-era astronauts left a seismic experiment on the moon. New analysis of that 30-year-old data may give new insights into the lunar core. What can this seismic data tell us about the moon today and in the past? What else you like to learn about the moon if you were sent on a mission to the moon?
New (old) views of the lunar core
today the moon has been formed to be much like the earth. I would want to be able to keep a space rock and we would want to know if there are aliens!
ReplyDeleteThis seismic data can tell us more about the moon and it's core. The core is layered which was confirmed by the data. If we visited the moon on a mission we would like to learn about all of the layers and more about the core.
ReplyDeleteThey have found out that the moon is formed much like earth and the in inside of it is 60% liquid. we would want to find out exactly how the moon was created and to know if there are aliens on super earths.
ReplyDelete@ dylan noble and Dallas blasek we also want to find out if their are aliens
ReplyDeleteSeismic data on the moon can tell us what the core of the moon is like and what layers the moon has. We would like to see how deep the craters on the moon really are and how wide.
ReplyDelete@ Matthew and Bryant
ReplyDeletewe to would like to find out how big the craters are.
Scientists today have found that the core is similar to the Earth's core. Scientists used to think that there was a core, but they were no 100% sure there was a core. We would like to know what the tempature is, we would also like to know if the magma in the core is able to create a volcano.
ReplyDeleteSeismic data on the moon can tell us what the core of the moon is like. It can also tell us what layers the moon has. They went on six moon missions. We would like to learn the tempurature on the moon. We would also like to learn how they named the layers.
ReplyDeleteAt Maddie Jalynn and Rheanna,
ReplyDeleteWe would also like to know about the different layers of the moons core.
It can tell us about the moon's core and how it's like the earth's core. We would like to learn more about the moon's core because it's made much like the earth's core.
ReplyDeleteWade Stenger And Drew FitzGibbon
@Bryant and Matthew:
ReplyDeleteWe never thought of thinking about how deep the craters are. That is a very good idea! Rheanna says good job.
Zach & Josh
ReplyDeleteThe seismic data can tell us how the moon is formed and whats inside it. We would like to learn if there is actually other stuff inside the moon besides just rock and minerals.
The seismic data has told us that there are quakes (similar to earthquakes) continually occurring on the moon. The seismic equipment sends data down to earth that scientists study. This equipment was placed on the moon by six Apollo astronauts. In the past, the data could only be analyzed in bits and pieces because there wasn't enough technology to sort through the data, but now they have faster computers and better technology, and they have gone back to examine the data from the past. This data proves that there is a core in the moon. There is a solid inner core and a liquid outer core, inside of the moon. (The outer core is made of magma.) There is no current volcanic activity on the moon, but there has been in the past. We would like to learn how many types of materials make up the surface and interior of the moon.
ReplyDelete@ Dylan & dallas we would also like to know if there are aliens
ReplyDeleteWade & Drew
Researchers reported that the lunar core may be much like the Earths, with a solid inner core and a molten outer core. However, out side of the moons outer core, the moon also has a thick partial melt layer, according to the new analysis. We would like to learn if there is other life outside of earth.
ReplyDelete~Taylar H, Brooke C.
They found that the moon may have a inner core and outer core similar to earths. In the past there was some volcanic activity on the moon. Most people think the moon is just a dead place but it's not. It's not as seismically active as the earth, but it does have different types of seismic energy and they are interested in deep moon quakes. If we were to go on a mission to the moon we would like to learn if the moon could have any other type of natural disaster like we have on earth. Since it has quakes like the earthquakes we have on earth we think there might be a possibility that there might be other natural disasters there.
ReplyDelete@dylan & dallas
ReplyDeleteWe dont think there are actually aliens since humans have actually been there and we can see so close with a telescope.
We would like to learn about the moon's core as well. We know that it has an inner and an outer core, just like the earth, and that its inner core is solid rock, with a liquid magma outer core. However, we would also like to know what kind of rock makes up the inner core of the moon.
ReplyDelete@BRYANT & daniel
ReplyDeleteWe totally agree the craters are very interesting but, not our first choice. We want to know how cold it is up there to see if a human body wouldn't explode from the freezing temperatures. Or burn from the burning temperatures.
the seismic data can tell us more about the moons core. the core is layered.if we went to the moon i would would want to see if there is aliens.
ReplyDelete@ Dylan and Dallas
ReplyDeleteWe do not think there are aliens on the moon but that would be interesting.
@Jenny K. and Abby C.
ReplyDeleteTaylar and I still thought that the moon was a dead place...
~Taylar H, Brooke C.
@Eric Fischer and Jesse Noell
ReplyDeleteWe agree with you.
@ brett and nate
ReplyDeletewe agree with you.
we also want to learn about the moon core.we know that it has an inner and an outer core just like the earth and that its inner core is solid rock, with a liquid magma outer core.but we would also like to know what kind of rock makes up the inner core of the moon.
ReplyDelete@eric fisher and jesse noel
ReplyDeletewe also agree with you (:
We think it would be cool to learn about the moon's core. What we know is that the moon has an inner and outer core just like the Earth. The inner core is solid rock with a liquid magma outer core. We would really like to know what kind of rock makes up the inner core.
ReplyDeleteI would really like to see a cut out of the moons core to get a relative size of the inner to outer core.
ReplyDeletein the 1970s scientists left a seismic experiment on the moon. this may give new insights into the lunar core. researchers say that the lunar core and earths core are very similar.
ReplyDeleteThe new seismic data can tell us more about what the moon is made of and what is on it, like the craters. If I were going to the moon I would like to go to the dark side of the moon and study more about the dark side of the moon.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBailee: There used to be volcanoes but there aren't any volcanoes now. The moon does have seismic activity now but not as much as the earth. If I went to the moon I would like to discover weather or not the moon could be livable in the future if we take the right measures.
ReplyDeleteKat: The seismographs were an experiment left by astronauts on the Apollo, and are still wonder what the tectonic plates on the moon look like (shape wise.) I would also like to learn how to moon walk.
Meara: I think it is odd how there is earthquakes an volcanoes on the moon. I would like to learn what the tectonic plates are like.
The seismic data tells us that today the lunar core may be much like the core of the Earth, with a solid inner core and a molten outer core. If I were sent onto a mission to the moon I would want to know what kind of things make up the moon's inner core.
ReplyDelete@ Maggie and Sara
ReplyDeleteWe would also like to know what kind of rock makes up the inner core. we thought that your post was very informative.
i think it's interesting that the outer core is liquid and not the inner core.
ReplyDeleteIt can tell us if the moon has had earthquakes. We would like to know what the other side of the moon looks like.
ReplyDelete@ Wade and Drew
ReplyDeleteWe agree that the earth's core is just like the moon's. That is something scientists could look into so they could learn more about the earth's core since we can't study the earth's core.
@ budde,finn,brad
ReplyDeletewe would also like to go to the dark side of the moon to study it.
@ W!ll
ReplyDeleteBailee: No pointing fingers! Most people will have similar answers because we are all listening to the same thing and answering the same questions. Also I think it would be cool to check out the moons layers.
Kat:Yes, there are hundreds of kids who are the same age (relatively), in the same class, commenting to the same blog. Some people will have very similar answers. That sounds really cool (to have a cutout of the moon's core)
Meara: I agree with Bailee and Kat.
We know the moon has an inner and outer core. The inner core is made up of solid rock, but the outer core is made up of magma. I want to learn why the moon is getting farther away from earth and if it is at all. We would also like to know if the moon g=has seasons, like winter and summer.
ReplyDeleteThe new seismic data tells us that the moon has multiple layers and what those layers are made of. We would want to go to the moon to leave our footprints on the moon forever.
ReplyDelete@Budde, Finn & Brad: We would also like to study more about the dark side of the moon. We think it sounds really cool and we want to know if anyone has ever been there and what it would be like.
ReplyDelete@ Sarah Colwell
ReplyDeleteWe agree about what makes up the inner core. We know its rocks but what kind?
I that the moon can tell us the changes that can to the waves, it can also tell us in the future it can tell us what is happening at the core and what gravitational pull it would have on the oceans , lastly in the past it can tell us what happen then and if it would happen now. One thing that I would like to learn about the moon is , is it possible that the moon will crash back into the earth because of the lost of gravity.
ReplyDelete@Bailee Kat and Meara
ReplyDeleteI figured that out so i removed the comment
@ Sarah Colwell
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement because since the moon crash in the earth years ago it should be made up of the same material.
@ Will Smith
ReplyDeleteWe agree that the inner core is solid but the outer core is a liquid, we wonder how that is. Do you know how that is?
@Maggie Hoover & Sara Bloemker
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement, I wonder what kind of rocks make up the inner core too.
@Kamal Williams: We agree, the moon can do many things for us like create ocean waves. That would also be a very interesting thing to investigate, if the moon will crash to earth because of lost gravity. Nice thinking.
ReplyDeleteit will be cool to go tot he moon..... It would be cold on the moon because the moon is all ice/snow... it would be awesome to be a austurnaut...
ReplyDeleteIt tells us that the moon has a partial thick layer of Earth. If I were to go on a mission to the moon, I would use these studies as a reference about it's physical analysis.-Dominic Deutsch
ReplyDeletei would like to learn is it possible that the moon will crash back into the earth if it keeps having moonquakes then that might happen then it would cause a huge explosion and then we could all probably die.
ReplyDeletethe moon is instresting there are diffent theings u could firgure out . if i got a letter stateing i have to go to the moon i whould cause i think the moon is cool and its a mystery . many theings can happend when ur on earth u can run out of breathing air or u can be up there for weeks or days ... so not many people whould accept the challege . . earth is very curious and werid of sometheing to do ..

The seismic data can tell us even more about the moon and it can tell us even more with the core, with the more we find out.We can find out that the moon might be able to have earthquakes like earth can have. The far side of the moon has some light. There was a ring around the moon.If the moon has volcanos. We want to know if the moon has living life on it.
ReplyDelete@Dominic Deutsch
ReplyDeleteWe agree because we liked how you worded your post and how you explained it and made it clear on knowing what senctince is for what question
Mrs.Hoffman
ReplyDeleteResearchers think that the lunar core may be much like the earth core that means that it must have a solid inner core and a molten outer core.I would like to know if the moon has volcanoes or will ever have volcanoes, and what is the possibility that a super volcano will ever be on the moon.
it can tell us that the moon isn't as dead as we thought the it has a core and that there is always activity on there. And that in the past an object about the size of mars crashed and made the moon, so the moon is basically just like earth.
ReplyDeleteSarah Cowell
ReplyDeleteWe agree on what you said you worded your blog very good
What this seismic data can tell us about the moon as for today & in the past is that it shows us the cores of the earth, also tells us info and details to give scientist info to research & this helps us figure out what's going on in space and to prevent anything from happening. What else i would like to learn about the moon is; i was wondering about if there are any living things on other planets...but i don't think there are but you never know & i was just curious.
ReplyDeleteit tells us more about the moon and the cores.any information i should now to be safe.also important information that would be helpful so when i go there i would now what im touching or looking at.
ReplyDeleteThe data can tell us about the moon and its cores. The moons cores and Earths are very similar. We were wondering how similar the cores were to Earth. Also if the far side of the moon has seismiscity?
ReplyDeleteScientists thought that there was a core inside the moon, but they were not sure that there was one. Derek would like too know if there is life on the moon. C.J. would like too know if we could survive on the moon. I would like too know if we can plant tree's on the moon.
ReplyDeletewhat the seismic data can tell us that the moons core is like the Earths core with a solid lunar core and molten outer core. what we would like to know is that if the moon has tectonic plates just like Earths plates.
ReplyDelete@jenna cara and jordan
ReplyDeletewe were also wondering if the moon has seasons like the earth.
the moons core is much like the earths. Their quakes are similar to earthquakes. We would like to know why it doesn't have gravity.
ReplyDeletei agree with mathew that there will not be alions on the moon
ReplyDeleteThe moon also has an outer core.
ReplyDeleteFrom- Derek Ellis C.J. Siegel And Keagen Gulley
This tell's me that there is magma under or inside the moon the moon quake is nwo in the middle of the moon.
ReplyDeleteScientist believe that there is a core in the middle of the moon but weren't positive. We can find out by the seismic data that the moon can have earthquakes just like Earth has.We are wondering if the Earth has any seismicity?
ReplyDeletewhat this seismic data tells us about the moon is that the moon has a lunar core that is like earths. Plus they need to research more to see if there is life outside of earth...
ReplyDeleteThe seismic data in the section told us that there are quakes similar to earthquake occur on the moon. The seismic equipment sends data down to earth that scientists look at and study. ReplyDelete@ Joe and Ben
ReplyDeleteWe agree with you.
@Rachel Kuebel, Hannah Basil and Rachel Schiller
ReplyDeleteWe agree we are wondering the same thing
Andy says go to a nasa website!
ReplyDeleteSimon says you could go too a museum that has an exsibit on the subject on the moon or see a imax movie on the moon. Ive been too the nasa space center and Ive seen a fuew movies.
We both think that the moon is very inportant, and if we were sent too the moon to find info about the moon quakes, we would find how it happends and when it occers, how often they occer
@ Brooke Chesney and Taylor Herbert
ReplyDeleteyour comment is 100% great and is very informative,i should reply to your comments more often...and we totally agree with you also.
Danny McCarthy and Matt Schapker we agree with you.
ReplyDeletePast information could not be studied in big sections. With modern day fast computers this information has proven that THE MOON HAS A SOLID INNER CORE WITH A MOLTEN OUTER CORE. Today they have learned that the moon has a thick partial melt layer outside the moon's outer core.today they are trying to learn about the moon's energy
ReplyDeletehow do moon;s quakes compare to the earth's? back side of the of the moon has a quakes and if so how big is it.
That the moon has moon quakes and about the convermation of a core in the moons depest interior.I would like to know more about the far side of the moon and see what all happens there.
