We learned that in some countries getting water is really hard and here we can easily get water. We feel that it is important that we do these projects so that people can have enough water to survive and so people can have proper sanitation. We thought that the living conditions in Africa were hard it was strange to see what other people have to go through on a daily basis when we can get a drink when ever we want.

Did you know that about 2 people die every day from diarrhea? We also think the living conditions in Africa are very hard.

We learned that at least 2 people die every day from diarrhea. It takes most people in Africa 4 hours every day just to get 40 liters of water for their family. We think that this project can really benefit a lot of people who do not get the amount of water they need every day. We think it will make other people more aware of the things that people in our world have to go through just to get water.

That is a good point about diarrhea, we did not hear the exact numbers in the video but that is very strange.

We learned that some people have to travel miles to get water, I always knew that some people had little water, but I always thought that they went to a well or something. And we never thought that people have to live without flush toilets. We think that the project is a very good idea, it will help so many people get clean water. We thought that the video was very sad, we saw all of the horrible conditions that some people have to live in.

  5. What I learned from watching this video is that water is a really important part of our life, however a lot of us take it for granted. I think this is an amazing idea. For Jay-Z to take time from his day to help kids, is a huge deal. I thought the videos were really sad. They have to walk for 4 hours just from water. I have to walk 4 seconds to the fridge to get a cup of water. Also, I thought it was sad that they have one toilet with running water. We have millions of those in America. Overall I thought it was really sad.

    4. I realized how much I took for granted when I watched this video. Water was just something I always had, and I never thought about what people do in other countries. I agree that its a good thing for Jay-Z to be spending time helping out the people in Angola. During the video you could see how much the kids and their families really appreciated what Jay-Z was doing. You are right about the four hours just to get water, and then the four seconds just for us to walk into the kitchen to get some. I now realize how much I really have now.

    5. I agree with you that it was sad. In America, water is just something that we go to the sink or the fridge for, and it is always there. It makes it difficult to realize that other people in the world don't have that luxury. It is nice to see famous people in our country going to help those areas, because ordinary people, like us, look up to people like Jay-Z, and that makes us more likely to follow his example.

I learned that there are some kids in Africa that don't have easy access to clean water and that they have to walk a long time to get clean drinking water. I think this is a good project because this can make a huge difference on society. This project can also make an impact on the kid's lives in Africa. The videos were really cool because it gave us a chance to see what some of those kids had to go through everyday.

    1. I learned a lot from that video. I learned that about 2 kids die each day from diarrhea. I agree that this will affect society in a huge, positive way. I thought the water pump where the kids spin and play on it was a good idea. Especially considering it's right by their school. I was amazed to see the clean water, because I was getting so used to seeing the dirty water from the video. This video really made me kind of wonder how those kids can carry buckets full of water back home for 4 hours, and I'm too lazy to carry my backpack home from the bus stop.

Lastly if they have phones and nice clothes shouldn't they be able to buy water purifiers and supplies?
Kat: I do not think that digging a giant waste hole would work. It would still be dirty and flies and mosquitoes would continue to live there. I agree that they should move closer to water sources.
Meara: I like what Jay-Z is doing a very kind thing. I think that if they moved closer to the water sources, because they do not know how to dispose waste and garbage correctly, that if they moved closer to the water sources that they would just pollute the water more.

We've learned that we have it pretty easy here, we have great schools, clean water and great sanitation conditions. Here in American it's very easy to get clean water, many people here have it right in their homes. In many other countries it's very hard to find water, and even if they do find water it may not be clean. Most people in American shower almost every day, but in the other countries showering or bathing is rare. Even public schools don't have clean running water, most people have to put their water in a bucket and bring it back. We think this situation is terrible! We should all be doing as much as we can to help these poor countries with scarce water. We should donate money to schools to help with the water problems, and we think some volunteers should offer to go there and clean up some of the rivers and streams and help with the sanitation problem. We think that if everyone helps, we could make a big difference for many lives. We need to help these people get clean water, better living conditions and good medical tools to help save lives. We want to do something for these countries.

We learned about how people in different countries that dont have healthy water like we do and they can get sickness and diesses that can hurt and kill them. We felt like he was making progress in the different countries and he donates money so that they can do things for them and he gives them things that can have and enjoy. We thought it was sad and devastating for what they have to go through and what they have to eat and drink. We thought that when he traveled with young people when he could he would help them carry back water so that it did not spill out of the containers so that they would at least have a little more water to drink even if it ment to him that his arms would be tired hurting stiff to him and even if he had to switch his hands time by time. He did what he could just so that the people had water to drink. We like what he was doing we think its good to do that and the more people who help him out means that the people will have something worth for that they need to stay alive.

We learned that water is very valuable in South Africa and that kids have to walk at least a half a mile to get to a small water spot where everyone gets there water. We think that this project is a really good idea and that it will make a huge difference. The video surprised us, because we always knew that Africa was a poor country and that it was hard, but not that bad. The living conditions were very poor and the food just sat inches away from the waste and it was gross. Everything was unclean and 2 million people die per year from the water conditions. We take water for granite and don't really appreciate that we have an amazing economy.

I learned they walked miles or spent hours just to get water for their family. I think the project is a good idea because it help get some water without having to walk miles or spend hours to find water. I thought the video was sad and i feel bad for them because they had to walk miles and spent hours just to find water for their family and their food they eat bugs/fly's landed on them.

There was an open sewage pipe and kids were playing basketball around it and the ball went into the sewage pipe place and they got the ball out and cleaned it off. They had to walk miles just to get water to use the bathroom. I learned that playing on a marygoround is fun.

We learned that in some countries its very difficult for families to get clean water. And we also learned how far and dangerous the treks to get the water are. We feel like the project is a very important one. Because It would make the peoples lives much safer in many ways. They'd have clean water to drink and they wouldn't have to walk on the dangerous roads. We think the video was very interesting. It gave us a a view of the actual conditions the people live in.

In the video we learned that kids in Africa don't have running water like we do. Everyday before they go to school they get water. It takes them about 4 hours to get the water. We feel bad for the kids and their families but we think its a good thing that Jay Z is trying to help people get clean, and fresh water. This project is really good because it can provide more water and less time to access it. We think everyone should contribute to help the people in Africa.

We learnt that we have it easily here in the U.S.A. Most people in American shower almost every day, but in the other countries showering or bathing is rare. Even public schools don't have clean running water, most people have to put their water in a bucket and bring it back. We think this situation is terrible! We should all be doing as much as we can to help these poor countries with scarce water.

Bailee: What do you think we can do to help those countries? Raise money, or send them water?
Kat: I feel that raising money is a must so that way the people in underdeveloped countries will be able to have better lives. This would save them lots of troubles and make the world a better place.
Meara: Yes, but before they get sufficient water they need a proper way to dispose of waste so they do not dirty the water and so they have better health and living conditions.

I learned while watching the videos that we take having clean water and fresh food everyday for granted and not a lot of people have that privalige.I feel that with all the fans and power he has he should be doing something good for our planet and the people on it.I thought that for him to go to these places and see what these people go through everyday was good so he knew how much he has.I think if I had as much power as he does I would also put it to good use and wouldn't take it for granted like a lot of people do in this world.People take for granted that they have clean clothes, fresh food, clean water and a sturdy house to live in some people just don't understand how good they have it and the thing they take for granted. The funny thing is that a bunch of these people keep asking for more and more.`

  49. What I learned about the videos of Jay-Zs Water For Life program is that we have it so easy here. We have it so easy that some people don't even realize that there are different country's who don't have it as good. And those country's don't have a lot of things. But the main thing is water. Water is a a thing you need a lot, and you need it everyday. But some people are great people and they do know about the other country's so they start working with the big name people....otherwise known as UNITED NATIONS.
And when they actually get to go to the country's they make a difference. Other than the people who just take water and everything else for granted.

  52. It was touching to thick these kids do this very day. I would not be able to imagine the things they go threw. I believe we are spoiled even if people who live like us say we are not. They are blind and do not see the needs of this world. It is great to see someone like Jay-z doing this to help others. I think we should all help people too and not let others do the work.

  53. From watching the videos and reading the article, I learned that in other countries, such as Angola, the citizens do not have clean, running water. Some of the kids have to take long hikes to foul-watered rivers, to find a drink. Over 1.5 million kids, under the age of five, die from diarrhea each year. I cannot imagine only living to be five years old. (They don't even really get to start their lives by then.) Not having sanitary water is a major problem, in the world, and people in countries with healthier water, like America and England, should step it up and try to help those less-fortunate people.
Therefore, I think that it is great to see some celebrities from our country, actually going out to help those people. Jay-Z is looked up to by people because of his music- and rapping- skills, and seeing him do something, like traveling to Angola, can inspire others to do the right thing, like help people in need.

@Alex Stevens: Yes, it's definitively a major problem. People really should be trying harder to help these people, we agree, we need more people to come in and help, especially the people who have plenty to spare for the others. We agree, can you imagine only living to be five? You wouldn't even remember anything! And dying from diarrhea, how's that possible? I'd kind of like to know how that would happen(But Cara doesn't want to know). We both think we should all learn more about this so we can do everything we can to help people get clean water!

We agree that this is a very helpful project to the kids in poor countries. We thought about how much water we use in a day.
Finn: 8 loads of laundry, 10 minute showers
Budde: 10 loads of laundry, 7 minute showers
Brad: 10 loads of laundry, 8 minute showers
What about you guys? How long are your showers and how many loads of laundry do you in a week?

  57. Sarah Colwell and Maggie HooverMarch 27, 2012 at 6:29 AM

Ways we could do things better with water would be taking shorter showers. We also shouldn't let the water run too long before getting in the shower. Also, every time we get a drink, we make sure to drink it all, put in the fridge for later or use it for ice. Things we do well are when we brush our teeth we don't let the water run while we are brushing our teeth. If we were in the person's situation it would be pretty difficult because we wouldn't be use to their water. Also it would be hard to walk 4 hours just to get 40 liters of water for our family. It would be hard because we would have to use pills to make our water clean, and that they have to go to the other end of the school to get water when they use the bathroom.

@Andrea and Rachel: We liked the videos too, but we still think we should show more people these videos somehow so we can all help get clean water. Like show it on the news or something. But yes, we are glad that some people are out there helping already. We think it's sad that these kids have to hike 4 hours every day to get water that may not even be clean, Jay-Z could barely carry that bucket, let alone kids. We are grateful that Jay-Z is out there doing everything he can to help save these children and adult who have to live this way, we really need to band together to help!

From the video I learned that people in the us should put more of there extra money in this fund and that the kids who have to suffer with polluted are strong. I feel that this project is a great idea and that it should keep on going until pollution in the water is gone. I think that this video was a great idea because that way other people will know and they will tell other people and they will tell other people and it will go on and on until, next thing you know everyone around the world knows.

If we had barely any water like them,we wouldn't yous the bathrooms as mutch because we would have to get the water from a far place. We would take small sips of the 2 buckets of water so we would have enough for the rest of are family. We would defiantly be igsusted from walking 4 hours to get water and the heat from the sun.

  66. What i learned from this video is that we are really lucky to have what we have today and people in america need to open their eyes and start appreciating what we have cause kids/teens in different country's don't have what we have and they would die for the objects, food, water, and money that we have. How i feel about this project is i feel like everyone should appreciate what they have and not take it for granted. What i like about the project is that someone is going out of their way to help those kids and when nobody else is and it also...kind of gives wake-up calls to people who don't appreciate what they got and they shouldn't take what they have for granted when children in other countries don't have what we have and people need to realize that.
