What do you think?
Did the rock labs we completed in class help you in understanding the different types of rocks, their characteristics and how to identify them? What did you think of these different labs? Did you like doing them or not? How would you have preferred to learn about the different rock types (yes, you do have to learn about them!)
Yes, the rock labs in class did help us understand the different types of rocks and how to identify them. The rocks labs were okay. No, we both did not like doing the rock labs. We would have preferred to learn about the different rocks by going outside and looking at different types of rocks.
ReplyDeleteThe rock labs did help us understand the rock types and there properties.
DeleteWe would have liked to go outside too for the rocks. It would have been more fun.
DeleteWe do agree that it would have been fun and more challenging to look for and identify rocks from nature, but the labs we did were very educational and interesting as well. We learned how sedimentary rocks form in layers, by stacking pieces in a graduated cylinder, and we learned the differences between types of rocks with all of the identification labs.
DeleteThe labs that we did may not have been very exciting, but they were atleast somewhat interesting.
Yes, the rock labs did help us understand types of rocks better. I think the rock labs were fun. I like doing them better than reading assignments. I would have liked to go outside and search for what types of rocks are in our area.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it would have been more satisfactory if we could have went outside and looked at the rocks in our area.
Deletewe agree we like the rock labs better than read out of the book and i think we get more out of it.
DeleteWe thought they definitely helped out but we would change the fill in the blank read along papers. It helped us understand the differences between clastic rocks and non-clastic rocks. We thought these different labs were interesting. We didn't like doing them that much, but that's because it's school work. We would've wanted to see rocks that came from around here, like maybe taking advantage of all the trails in the back of the school or something along the lines of that.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we agree that it would have been a good idea to search for rocks around the school, but we didn't even think of all of the trails around here. With the creek so close by, there would have been a lot of sedimentary rocks, most likely.
DeleteI agree, it really did help us understand the differences between the rocks. It was also kind of fun.
DeleteYes, the rock labs did help us to better understand rock types and characteristics. Our favorite rock labs were the ones where we attempted to identify which of the rocks they were, out of a certain type. We liked this lab because it helped us to better observe differences between the different rocks. We liked the labs that we did, but it would have been fun to go outside to search for and identify rocks from nature. It would have been more challenging because there is no "key" to tell us for sure what the rocks were.
ReplyDeleteI know, it would be fun because there would be no key, and we would have to figure it out on our own and not just depend on the teacher to tell us if it's right or wrong.
DeleteYes, the rock labs did help us understand the type of rocks better. I think these labs could have been a little bit more creative. I liked doing them twice or three times a week but not everyday because they get really boring. We would like to travel around the world, and study all of the different types of rocks we find, and compare them to each other.
ReplyDeleteYes because we learned learned that the size of the rock pieces effected the type of rock it was, and we never knew that. The labs were pretty fun, not as fun as the volcano and and some of the stuff we did last year, but way more fun that just filling out a work sheet. We did like doing the labs. I would have liked to go outside to the woods and found our own rocks, then come inside and figure them out based on the characteristics.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this was better than some of the things we have done this year but not as good as some of the things we did last year.
DeleteYeah, it helped us learn that the size of the rock affects it. I liked the lab for the volcanoes more, but for looking at rocks, theres really no way to make something erupt or explode. So therefore, I really liked this lab.
DeleteWe think that it would be kind of hard to find some different types of rocks outside.
Delete~Brooke C. and Taylar H.
Yes the rock labs helped us understand the rocks better. I thought they were better than some of the other things we have done, but I think it would cool if we found the rocks then identify them. Yes we did like the labs.
ReplyDelete@ brett and dylan
DeleteI agree with you
@ Brett & Dylan
DeleteWe agree with you we think we should have to find the rocks first and then identify them. We think we should go outside and have a scavenger hunt.
We thought it helped us learn better than papers. We think we have learned rocks very well better than papers and reading activities.
ReplyDeleteLabs help us identify the diiferent rocks.
Yes, it helped me understand the differences between the rocks. I liked that we had to really think and look at the rock. It made me look at rocks in a whole different way. I liked doing them because the things we normally do out of the books, get very boring. It was cool. I really liked it.
ReplyDeleteI agree the books are annoying.
DeleteYes the rock labs did help me understand rock types and characteristics better. My favorite lab was the sedimentary rock lab when we had to identify which rocks were which from the characteristics they have. I would prefer doing the lab where you test rocks.
ReplyDeleteYes, I thought it helped me understand a lot more. I thought these different labs helped a lot! I thought the labs were fun. I would of rather of learn about them by a scavenger hunt, those are always fun!
ReplyDelete@ Eric fischer and Jesse noell I agree
ReplyDeleteno and yess the rock labs helped a little but i would rather do other activities. i cant think of any thing else to do though.
ReplyDelete@Ross Campbell
ReplyDeleteYou're telling me that you cant think of any other way to learn about rocks/minerals?! What about going out finding rocks and identifying rocks without any help?
@Liz Scarloto and Carley Snell
ReplyDeleteI like your explanation and everything but you never said what a new way to learn about rocks.
Yes we thought the rock labs helped us a lot. We thought they were okay but we would prefer hands on labs. We liked doing them but think it was better if they were more experimental. We would prefer to do hands on experimental labs.
ReplyDeleteWe did find the labs okay and we agree that hands on labs would have been more fun. They also were helpful to us.
Deleteyes we really liked the rock labs i think actually seeing the rocks helped me understand what the rocks we and their characteristics. also we liked how it was a hands on activity.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the labs that we did. However, I think that it should have been matching all of the rock types in stead of not having certain rocks. Some of the rocks did not match the descriptions on the paper (one of our rocks reacted with acid that was not supposed to). I really liked the metamorphic rock lab because it was shorter and much easier. I liked the worksheets that we had with them because they taught me a lot and the ideas of crystallization while the rocks were forming made sense to me. I think we could also learn about new rocks by researching them and making reports about different rock types.
ReplyDeleteWe agree that some of the descriptions that were on the paper didn't match the rocks. Also your paragraph is very well described.
DeleteI already knew the rocks pretty well so i didn't learn much but it was still fun. I would like it better though if there was more chemical reactions.
ReplyDeleteWe would've liked to do more chemical reactions too.
DeleteThere so fun with all the bubbles and fire!
Delete@Jonathan Finn & Brad Weidner...
ReplyDeleteI feel that the labs we did were very hands-on; however, I agree that I would like to experiment on rocks too (find the hardness, color/colors, rock type, etc.).
We didn't feel like it was very hands on. we didn't feel there was enough explanation, and we would have liked to experiment more on the rocks.
DeleteYes they did. The lab helped us identify the different types of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.NO,because they were the same thing every single time. We would've liked to find rocks around here since we won't run into to most of the rocks we learned about.
ReplyDeleteYes, they did help us learn how to identify rocks. The labs were interesting because helped us identify the different types of rocks. We do not like doing the rock lab. If we picked another way to study rocks we would probably still do the rock lab because we aren't sure what another way would be.
ReplyDeleteThe labs were okay but we like doing big class group or partner projects. Projects are funner (yes, funner is a word) but if we can't do projects the labs are pretty good.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't really help us to understand the different types of rocks or the characteristics, but it did help us to understand how to identify some different types of rocks and minerals. We thought they were a bit boring and they didn't exactly help us understand the different types of rocks as well as it could have. The worksheets just made things more confusing.
ReplyDeleteYes I think they do. They did a good job but they were kidda of boring. I liked they projects we did and it would be fun to go out a find rocks in their natural homes.
ReplyDeletewe also think they help us unerstand them.
DeleteYes they did. I think these labs were very simple, especially with experimenting with the rocks.-Dominic Deutsch
ReplyDeleteDominic,
DeleteWe do agree with you but we thought that they were kinda boring.
yes they did. i thought they were fun and helped use know how to identify the rocks.yes i liked them. by looking up 3D models of the rocks with things about the rocks on the side.
ReplyDeleteIt helped us understand the differences between clastic rocks and non-clastic rocks.it helped us learn how to identify rocks. The labs were interesting because helped us identify the different types of rocks.
ReplyDeleteMrs.Hoffman,
ReplyDeleteThe labs we were helpful but could have been a little more interesting. We thought they ok but not super fun like yah yah thios is awesome. The labs were ok but kinda boring. We think that we should have used more chemicals on the rocks to determine what they are.
We agree, more entertaining.
DeleteYes it helped us a lot we can tell the differences of rocks now and how to tell the differences of them now. Chyanne-yes it was helpful but the group did not always help out and it could have been a little funner. Erin-I liked the lab I thought it was fun but could have been funner.
ReplyDeleteI thought the labs helped a lot! I now understand all the rocks and there differences. I thought the labs were really cool and creative.
ReplyDelete@Corey Allen we totally agree with you so you keep up the work
DeleteWe think the labs helped us learn the different types of rocks, but they were boring. We think it would be more fun to do more experimental labs, more challenging and exciting.
ReplyDeleteyes I learned a ton and and most of the rocks i did not know
ReplyDeletethey were fun but some were confusing and the most fun one was when i got to use chemicals
ya thay were fun
this way was fun but a little confusing so this is good
@Chyanne & Erin
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chyanne more because my group sometimes wouldn't help & then when they would help they would say they are bored. So the lab would need to be a little funnier
yes i thought they were helpful it made me look at the rocks different I liked them.I think that we should have done differnt types of labs.
ReplyDeleteYes, the rock labs did help us understand the type of rocks better. I think these labs could have been a little bit more creative. I liked doing them twice or three times a week but not everyday because they get really boring. We would like to travel around the world, and study all of the different types of rocks we find, and compare them to each other.
ReplyDeleteYes, the rock labs in class did help us understand the different types of rocks and how to identify them. The rocks labs were I really liked the metamorphic rock lab because it was shorter and much easier.
ReplyDeleteYou guys did good. We like how you said metamorphic rock lab....
Deletezack your post is too short and is not spisifc enough
ReplyDelete@ Corey Allen
ReplyDeleteWe agree with you good job
yes we learned the different characteristics and to identify them.We thought they were fun especially the project. We liked them.We prefer to do it like a project.
ReplyDeleteWe think the labs helped us learn the different types of rocks, but they were boring. We think it would be more fun to do more experimental labs, more challenging and exciting.
ReplyDeleteWe think that the rock labs were helpful of learning the characteristics of the rocks.Well each lab was kind of the same thing every time so it was easy to understand. We both enjoy doing the labs.We don't think there would be any other way of learning about them.
ReplyDeletei wouldnt say its the only way of learning them but its the easyist way
DeleteYes, the rock labs did help me understand the type of rocks better. I think these labs could have been a little bit more creative. I liked doing them twice or three times a week but not everyday because they get really boring. i would like to travel around the world, and study all of the different types of rocks we find, and compare them to each other.
ReplyDeleteThe rock labs did help me understand more about the different rock types, characteristics, and how to identify them. I thought the labs were okay, I didn't love them, but I didn't think they were awful either. I think it would have been fun to go outside and find different rocks because we could be aware of what kind of rocks are in our environment.
ReplyDelete@Nate and Wade:
ReplyDeleteI think a scavenger hunt would be fun too! I didn't even think of that, and it would also be a fun and different way to help identify the different types of rocks.
